With much excitement, we feature the relaxed South-African Countryside Wedding of Konrad and Sumari with you. It was Sumari’s life long dream to get married in a location with green fields and large bodies of water. Her dream came true when they tied the knot in Chrissiesmeer, the wetland area of Mpumalanga province in South Africa.
This picturesque wedding will definitely be a source of inspiration for your wedding planning. Although the wedding was in the countryside, they used different decor elements to keep the wedding elegant and modern. They found most of their wedding inspiration online and their wedding is super pretty! We love how all the elements work so well together. The brick walls, soft floral designs, and the modern table numbers. It all works so well together.
Enjoy this gorgeous wedding that the talented photographers, Carolien and Ben Photography photographed.
Favorite Wedding Memory:
There wasn’t really just one in particular, so I’ll mention a few… Firstly, the morning of, Konrad and I started the day in serenity with a cup of coffee together (a handy little tip from our photographers). It was really nice just to soak in the moment of “IS THIS REALLY HAPPENING?”.
Also, there was a distinct moment after the ceremony when we were heading for the canape’s and I was holding Konrad’s hand and looking at him when I truly snapped: “This is now my husband!”. I felt overcome with love. Then, just remembering what a great gathering it was.
Wow, what a celebration! Just thinking of how everyone danced until the early morning hours, took a million pictures eagerly, all in the spirit of love happiness truly makes me smile.
The story behind the wedding dress:
I knew I wanted a lacey mermaid styled dress. I tried on some of Werner Dey’s amazing creations – and voila! We all just knew it was the one as soon as I had it on
The Wedding Cake:
The wedding cake was a memorable wedding gift from my sister-in-law, Hanneke, who is an avid baker There were three layers with different flavors – pumpkin spice cream cheese buttercream, dark chocolate Nutella and peppermint crisp… YUM.
Engagement Story:
We were about to go out for the day when there was a sudden “deviation” in our plans and he quickly had to stop to “pick something up” at a lodge… I accompanied him and eventually, we reached a sweet little chapel, where he surprised me by popping the question. There was a pretty little table with champagne, flowers, and snacks. It was very sweet.
Wedding Planning advice:
If you have the time and energy, DIY! We DIY’ed some elements such as all of the stationary, confetti, photobooth, seating arrangements, scroll at the main table… Simply because I love getting creative when it comes to events. For me, it gave a “personal” touch to our wedding, and I enjoyed every minute of it!
Wedding Colours:
Pinterest! The overall style was aimed at: “romantic, modern floral-and-greenery wedding in the countryside”. We felt that lots of greenery, blush and some hints of magenta would bring that forth beautifully.
Decor Inspiration:
I loved certain elements from numerous different pictures I found on Pinterest. Particularly, I felt that a soft, blush tulle runner and long dove-grey candles would be very sweet and romantic.
Crystal elements were placed to up the “glam” factor and we combined it with the golden cutlery and candle holders. In the candlelight, it created a warm and inviting effect. Plexiglass signs and vellum-paper stationary made for a fresh, mod vibe.
The Venue:
My whole life I’ve imagined my wedding in the countryside with green fields and large bodies of water. Well, Chrissiesmeer has no shortage of that. We fell in love with the venue as soon as we laid eyes upon it. With its romantic sandstone buildings, one can imagine being in some quaint French village. The venue also has an impeccable reputation, named the best country venue of 2018 by Top Vendor. In the end, the venue was a no-brainer for us.
The wedding music playlist:
Kelsey & Caleb rendition of From this moment/Still the one by Shania Twain. Being school sweethearts, it’s just wonderful to experience our relationship reaching another level.
We just felt that the lyrics explain that dynamic so well: “You’re still the one” – we’ve been together for some time; we feel comfortable, familiar and “at home” with each other; BUT at the same time “from this moment” – this is a huge, life-defining moment for us, which makes everything feel new, exciting and adventurous.
