Romantic Sunrise Picnic Engagement

Esterien & Jacques had a romantic sunrise picnic engagement shoot in South-Africa. Esterien & Jacques got engaged at the Empire State Building in New York, but not everything went as planned, you will read more below.  It all ended in a happily ever after situation, which we are super glad of and excited about.  LORA photography photographed this lovely couples engagement session in South-Africa.

Engagement Story:

Jacques: “I’ve been staying and working in the USA, 13000 km from the love of my life. In April of this year we arranged for her to come to visit and the first weekend she was here we planned to go to New York for a few days as neither of us has ever been there. I thought it to be a good idea to pop the big question in the big apple. The next challenge was finding the perfect location and what better place than the Empire State Building.

I bought us tickets to go up in the Empire State Building (and with some prior research also knew that one of her favourite instruments -a saxophone- would be playing at the top). Contrary to my spectacular expectation of the view and ambience it was very dark, overcrowded and no indication of the expected romantic melody to fill the air.
Uncomfortable and disappointed with the whole atmosphere, I tried to urge her to descend the big “tower” but she didn’t want to budge – leaving me in the dilemma of having to hide the ring even longer! Eventually, we went down and I asked her if we could go take photos at the model of the Building.

As we walked in the door we were greeted in Afrikaans and with that, I decided this is my wingman.  I gave him my phone to “take pictures” of us with the model. As my lady was admiring the model I crept up behind her, went on one knee and popped the question. Being the bubbly angel that she is she started to laugh, jokingly kicked me…walked away… and then came back to say yes!!

The Engagement ring:

Jacques initially couldn’t make up his mind about when to ask me. He wasn’t planning on asking me in April. However, somewhere just before my visit to America, he decided that April is the perfect time to pop the question…leaving him with very little time to get the ring. In a panic to at least have something he bought a ‘temporary ring’ with the idea that he would let me design my ring after the engagement, but the ring was perfect and needless to say I’m not changing a thing.
