Our friends at LionHeart gave us the latest Wedding Cake trends. More than ever we are blurring the boundaries between cake and art. Cake designers across the globe are showing a movement towards the sculptural and abstract realm. Which is a really exciting time for the team at LionHeart! As cake designers, we love working with layering textures, colors, and materials. That might not make sense (at first) or combining traditional pastry techniques with classical art techniques.
The obscure becomes beautiful and is stealing the show! Here are a few of their latest wedding cake trends they hope to see more of in the next season:
Muted & Same-colour Textures
Cake designers (or should I say artists) are taking layering to new heights. Using discreet colour palettes with metallic or pearl accents but in a highly textured application to create whimsical bridal-perfect designs.
Layering & Abstract Accents
Think fondant on buttercream with Isomalt, floral, wafer paper, gelatine sails all in one design tied up neatly with a splash of colour.
Dessert Tones
A brittle and vast narrative is making it’s way into cake design, particularly with the influence of floral design moving towards the use of dried foliage and dessert toned
blooms.
Mixed Media
There has been a rise in the combining of complimentary shapes, colours and textures like black, perspex and gold or stone finishes and metallics in non-traditional ways in cake design. Of all the trends we’ve been seeing this is the one that gets us excited the most!
