Escape the Ordinary with Pebble and Lace

This styled shoot, coordinated by Pebble and Lace, is all about escaping the ordinary and breaking the mold of traditional decorative setup.  The shoot was also a relaunch of the well-known venue, Lace on Timber, in Pretoria.  Nowadays, it is extremely easy to fall into the trap of doing what everyone else is doing.  To be unique and create your own trends are much more difficult than following the crowd.  The book of ‘wedding rules’ is becoming thicker and thicker when, in actual fact, there are no rules!  It is such a beautiful picture to see a bride’s little idea growing into something spectacular and true to her personality.

This styled shoot is about pushing boundaries.  Not just from a stylistic point of view, but also pushing the boundaries for photography and showing what can be done if one decides to be brave.  One single idea can be transformed into an unique piece of art if you open yourself up to creative ideas and unapologetically follow your gut-feeling.

The Location:

The location was by far the easiest choice!  Lace on Timber is one of the most sought after wedding venues in Gauteng, therefore making it the perfect venue for this styled shoot.  The setup accommodated the style of the venue perfectly.  Everything worked together in perfect harmony, especially the natural light that illuminated the chapel.  It gave the setup that ethereal, almost heavenly atmosphere.

Floral Design Inspiration:

With only three colors, we created a look and feel of an effortless, yet very well thought through creation.  We played with floral design and manipulated the style to match our concept.  We also incorporated unconventional and unexpected elements such as mushrooms and garlic.  This brought about a more bohemian look and feel to create diversity in the styled shoot.

The story behind the Wedding Gowns:

Inspired by an almost ethereal world, we wanted to use a gown with soft flowing layers that have lots of movement.  We created this dress with loads of chiffon layers and soft voluminous sleeves, in shades of white, off white and stone.  Inspired by how we change and adapt in certain situations, this gown with its many layers can be worn in 4 different ways.  This allows for a whole story to be told with just one dress.

Advice to couples planning their wedding:

When it comes to your wedding day, don’t fall into the trap of playing it safe.  Just because everyone is doing it, doesn’t mean you have to.  If there is a crazy idea that you want to try, go for it!  Forget about other people’s opinions and what their expectations for your wedding are.  At the end of the day the only opinion that matters, is your own.
