Excited to feature the African bushveld engagement of Louis & Monique on our blog today. This couple got engaged at Ulusaba Private Game Reserve, Safari Lodge at Sabi Sand Reserve in Mpumalanga owned by Sir Richard Branson. This is any girl’s dream came true moment.
Louis and Monique’s engagement shoot were at Millstream Farm in Mpumalanga. They got engaged on April 27, 2018. This is the perfect location for romantic engagement shoots. The African bushveld is the perfect location. Surrounded by nature, these two love birds could enjoy a relaxing engagement photoshoot.

Engagement Story:
We had won an amazing weekend away at Sir Richard Branson’s Private Game reserve, Ulusaba. A once in a lifetime opportunity – there was so much excitement in the air as we set off on our adventure! After a day of the most spectacular animal sightings, we sat down to a delicious 3-course dinner prepared by their top chef’s, and enjoyed a few glasses of their best wine! After our tummies were full and our hearts were warm, we went back to our room to relax on the deck that overlooked the African bushveld. It felt like we were all alone in the heart of the bush.
I spotted a shooting star and pointed it out to Louis who then asked me what my wish was. Not wanting my wish not to come true I refused to tell him. He then proceeded to get down on his knee, took out the ring and said “Well, I hope this is what you wished for. Will you marry me?” I sat there stunned and in shock – not expecting him to have asked me that question at that specific moment (Was I imagining it?!). He then repeated the question (As if I needed him to ask me twice!) and I jumped up and screamed YES! I think I was crying, he was probably laughing (probably at me crying). It was amazing and perfect – just how I had always wanted him to ask me. Just the two of us surrounded by nothing else but nature!
Why did you choose Ulusaba Private Game Reserve for your engagement?
We had won a luxury weekend away to one of the most beautiful places in Africa. Louis chose the perfect setting & timing – surrounded by the African bushveld sounds and smells and under an African night sky filled with shooting stars.
How long were you together before you got engaged?
7 Years & 6 Months (Started dating on the 18th October 2010)
Engagement Ring:
Louis designed the perfect engagement ring and had it made for me – one of a kind! The focal point of the ring is a unique Heart Cut Diamond he had purchased from his mother a few years earlier when we had started dating. The diamond is set in a white gold vintage design with the most intricate details and side profile. The ring of my dreams!
The Wedding:
21 September 2019 – A day filled with love and laughter, celebrating with friends and family. Classic, bohemian-inspired décor – simple yet beautiful – surrounded by greenery and nature. The most important part – sharing this day with those dearest and nearest to us.
Engagement Session Location:
Millstream Farm, Dullstroom, Mpumalanga. Dullstroom has always been one of our favorite places to visit. It is a beautiful place; outside in nature, surrounded by the most stunning fauna and flora. When we first started dating, we use to go to Louis’ family farm. Situated in Dullstroom and we have very fond memories there. For this reason, we chose Dullstroom for both our Engagement Shoot and Wedding.
