The story behind the wedding dress:

Finding a dress was probably the most difficult part for me… I didn’t want to have a flashy dress, just something elegant and timeless.

My mother heard about a small boutique shop in Gauteng, close to home, by this time I had tried on too many dresses. In the home-style shop I found beautiful dresses and among them, I just remember seeing ‘my’ dress. It fit perfectly. My mom usually has the best ideas.

Engagement Story:

A weekend visit to the garden route for our grandmother’s 90th birthday turned into a big engagement celebration – her best gift, she insisted.

The weekend started with a surprise picnic at Herold’s Bay. We took a casual stroll on the beach where I  found not just a beautiful picnic spot but also my favourite person on one knee asking me to be his wife forever and ever. I was so overwhelmed that I asked him to get up, no go back down, I mean yes!!! Who said it had to be perfect.

Favourite Wedding Memory:

What a day… our favourite memories include: seeing each other for the first time in the church- overwhelmed by emotion.  Being announced as husband and wife, watching our 2year old godchild bringing in the rings while sucking on two dummies. We remember our loved ones talking, laughing and truly celebrating with us. We enjoyed our first dance! And to top it off… Going home together at last.

Wedding Colours:

Greeneries/white with a touch of blue. Greeneries and white for me and a touch of blue for my husband. As simple as that.

We got our inspiration for our flowers from what was available during February in the Tulbagh area. My wedding planner/ family friend visited an open day at a flower farm close to our venue. The beautiful dahlias captivated us and became the centerpiece of our decor, brightening up my initial colour choices.

Decor Inspiration:

Our scenic venue enabled us to use minimal decor. We wanted to keep it simple but elegant. Beautiful flowers, wooden tables, herbs for confetti and table placements.

Advice to couples planning their wedding:

Don’t forget what it is all about. Enjoy the journey together.

Planning our wedding was such a fun adventure. Creating our wedding website, sending invites, spending time on a few detail things for the wedding day- we made a wedding newspaper, printed a big photo of us on a puzzle to be signed as our guest book, built games to be played during the canapes, created our own stamp to be used as a trademark on the day… All these things made the day even more memorable for the two of us.

Honeymoon:

We spent a few nights in a mountain cabin in the Swartberg area, explored the West coast and ended our “first” honeymoon in a treehouse in Wilderness.

The Venue:

It was a match from the start. It was the first and only venue we viewed. We were looking for a farm-style wedding in the country side. While searching on the internet my husband was the first to note that this venue had something special.

Morgansvlei had everything we hoped for. A beautiful setting where we could enjoy a family celebration on Friday evening, farm-style breakfasts together each morning and stylish accommodation to house our guests.

Musical choices:

We danced on Joshua na die reën’s song… “die wêreld binne my”. It reminded us of the first show we attended together.

We spent a lot of time picking out the songs we love for our wedding day… But the sweetest music on our wedding day was the laughter and conversation of our friends and family.
