We love it when a couple decides to embrace their uniqueness and not merely copy ideas from previous weddings or Pinterest boards. Inspiration can be derived from anywhere and everywhere for your wedding theme. From your favorite colour, to the holiday destination that makes you uncontrollably excited, or even the food that makes your taste buds water! When you walk into that wedding venue, it should feel like home; Like a glimpse of you and your loved one’s future together.
Alastair and Reane’s inspiration came from their family’s Orange farm in Hazyview. They gently incorporated the orange theme into several elements of the wedding, with the calming colour, blue, balancing the enthusiastic orange. The tone of the wedding was inspired from the venue, as well as Reane’s wedding dress.

Engagement Story:
We were on holiday in Heroldsbay during our engagement. We were participating in a potjiekos competition and I was busy making the potjie the whole day. After the competition, Alastair suggested we go down to the deck to see if we can spot dolphins. We went down to the deck and Alastair decided to take his gap. He was very nervous!
The story behind the wedding dress:
Finding a dress was the easiest part of planning the wedding! I took a day’s leave and made a few appointments to try on dresses. By the end of the day, I had a short-list. and the next day I made my final decision. My final decision was mainly driven by my mom’s reaction to the dress. She simply couldn’t hold back the tears when I put the satin dress on.
Advice to couples planning their wedding:
My best advice would be to stay true to yourself. Don’t feel the pressure to have the perfect wedding – the day is about you and your partner.
The Wedding Cake:
My mom is a super mom! She had a hand in many of the details of the wedding. She made the wedding favors and also the wedding cake. The cake was a traditional fruit cake. We served individually wrapped fruit cake on the day.
The Venue:
As many of our friends and family were coming from far, we wanted a weekend away destination wedding. Our search for a venue started in Wakkerstroom then Piet Retief and then Hazyview. On our way back to Johannesburg, we decided to take a detour and Chrissiesmeer. As soon as we visited Florence Farm, we knew that we wanted to get married there. We fell in love with Florence’s Wedding Chapel and the scenery on this beautiful farm.
Honeymoon:
We went to a private game reserve in the Waterberg, called Welgevonden. We stayed at Mhondoro Safari Lodge & Villa. The location and service were fantastic! It was the perfect place to relax after an intense few days.
Decor Choices and Colors:
Our colour platte was green with orange touches. The inspiration came from our family’s Orange farm in Hazyview. We used the fruit, orange, as a theme for the wedding, which started with the invitations. We didn’t force the colors in every element, but rather let the total picture lead the direction.
A combination of the venue and my dress set the tone for the wedding. We chose a classical look. For decor, we had brass candlesticks and old English style brass vases on the tables. We also had a lot of candlelight, which gave a magical feel to the already beautiful venue.
Favorite Wedding Memory:
Our favorite memory was our first dance. It wasn’t perfect, but we had so much fun!
Musical Choices:
I walked in on The Piano Guys’ version of Rewrite the Stars. Our first dance song was Willow by Jasmine Thompson. We chose this song because we wanted to do the Viennese Waltz. We both had a bit of ballroom dancing experience, so we felt confident that we can do it.
