The Surprise Proposal of Jonathan & Anzél

Most women would prefer that their husband-to-be propose in an intimate and private setting with not too many eyes staring.  But, once all the excitement of the proposal calms down, all brides can agree that they would love to watch and relive that special moment all over again.  Seldom neither of the two can even remember what they said, due to the anxiousness and whirlwind of mixed emotions!

Jonathan had a clear idea of what Anzél’s dream proposal was and, despite bad weather trying to ruin the day, executed his plan perfectly.  Anzél had her dream proposal on the 26th of October 2019 at Kievits Kroon Country Estate.  It was such a beautiful and intimate moment for these two, while sneaky photographer, Alexis Muntz Photography hid in the bush and caught everything on camera!  Anzél was under the impression that they were alone, but little did she know she will be able to relive this moment forever!

Engagement story:

The engagement story is one of deceit and subterfuge. Our family and friends were involved, ensuring the target took the bait.  The official lie, as it were, was that a family photoshoot will take place at Kievits Kroon Country Estate.  However, in reality, a romantic picnic had been arranged for Jonathan and I.  For weeks everyone was lying about this family shoot.  My friend who is a photographer, Alexis Muntz Photography, had helped arrange this ‘family shoot.’  I even went shopping with family members to get outfits for the day!  They really played their part.

We arrived at Kievits Kroon early in the morning.  Jonathan and I ended up sitting on the patio waiting for everyone to show up.  All was well until mother nature decided to intervene and the skies opened with an ill-timed downpour.  Considering it hadn’t rained for months, this was quite unplanned for.

The moment Jonathan proposed:

The people at Kievits Kroon were great and really helped with making the arrangements work on the fly.  They set up the picnic undercover without me suspecting a thing.  Jonathan had told me he wanted to have breakfast while we wait for everyone to arrive.  As we walked around the corner to the picnic area, he had taken the ring out and gotten down on one knee.

He told me how much he loves me and apologized numerous times for how chaotic the day had begun.  Jonathan then ended it off by saying: “How about giving life a go with me?”  All I remember is that I couldn’t stop crying and said, “Yes absolutely yes!”  Alexis was hiding in the bushes and captured the entire moment.

Relationship before the proposal:

We haven’t been together for very long – about a year and a half.  We knew from day one that we wanted to spend forever together.  I knew Jonathan was my future about three months into our relationship.  Jonathan and I met on Facebook and started chatting online.  We chatted for a few weeks until we finally agreed to go on a blind date.   From the first date, we were inseparable!  We wouldn’t be here today if it wasn’t for Mark Zuckerberg.

The engagement venue:

We got engaged at Kievits Kroon Country Estate, just outside Pretoria.  It is a beautiful place and has been acknowledged as “the Winelands in Gauteng” because of its Cape Dutch-style architecture.  This venue has an old Cape Dutch style feel with beautiful grounds for a picnic-perfect for what Jonathan had in mind!

The story behind the engagement ring:

Jonathan designed my dream ring.  It is definitely one of a kind!  My ring is a bespoke ring made by Kelvin Leece Jewellers.  It is 18ct gold with a champagne marquise cut diamond with smaller diamonds on each side.  Most of the gold had actually come from my mother’s wedding band, so the ring is extremely sentimental to me.

Dream wedding:

Our wedding date is the 25th of July 2020 at Lace on Timber.  This venue is set between a luscious and natural forest-like tree setting on the edge of Cullinan.  Our theme is going to be winter meets gold.  The ideal wedding for us would be a short and sweet ceremony, as well as a modern venue, with family and friends to celebrate with us.  Most importantly, ending our special day off with a proper party with all our loved ones.
