Favorite wedding memory:

Our favorite wedding moment was when we exchanged our vows.  It was the most intense, raw and emotional moment that I have shared with my husband.  This was the moment that it was us, and only us.

Engagement Story:

Renier and I had been dating for seven years at the time of our engagement.  He knew that he should keep it simple, as I always figure out surprises.  After a long road trip, halfway to Hermanus, he decided to pop the question at a lovely farm guesthouse in Britstown, surrounded by nothing.  He got down on one knee and asked me to be his wife. I was ecstatic!

The story behind the wedding dress:

I wanted a dress that fits me perfectly and allows enough movement to get down on the dance floor.  I fitted a few dresses to get the feel of different materials, styles, and necklines.  Taking everything into consideration, I decided to ask a designer to make my dress.  The wonderful Elizna from NetElizna designed and made my dress.

Advice to couples planning their wedding:

Planning a wedding can feel overwhelming at first, but the trick is taking one step at a time and recruiting friends, family, and your spouse to help.  The most important thing to keep in mind is to try to have some fun!  This is your wedding after all!  Getting too hung up on the details can take away from what is truly important: A happy marriage with the person that you love most.

Honeymoon:

We went to Cayley Lodge located in Bergview in the central Drakensberg.  The lodge had wonderful views over Cathkin Peak and the Champagne Caste ranges. We were hoping for snowfall, but just missed it by a week.  Luckily the beautiful views made it romantic enough.  It was a trip that we will never forget.

The Venue:

The Stone Cellar is a quick 45 minutes drive from Johannesburg, surrounded by beautiful Farmlands.  This uniquely modernized farm-style wedding venue created the perfect backdrop for our wedding day.  The natural surroundings and breath-taking views was a perfect choice.

Decor and Color:

The inspiration behind our wedding decor was the natural, organic and minimalistic surroundings of the venue.  Lush greenery and plenty of candles added to the dreamy and stylish feel.  The colours we used was Burgundy, Grey, Blush, and Greenery.  During winter months, burgundy is a classy and timeless color that can make a winter wedding feel warm and romantic.  We loved the decor of our nature-inspired Farmstyle wedding!

Wedding cake:

Our wedding was simplistic and natural and we decided to keep the cake simple, but tasty.  The cake was a two-tiered naked cake wrapped with greenery to fit the decor.

Musical choices:

Our first dance song was “I won’t give up” by Jason Mraz.  The lyrics of the song spoke to both of us as it is a promise to never give up on our love.
